Bombs Over Hollywood
Augor is an MSK writer out of LA, and is most well-known for his work on movie billboards. Check out the video of him hitting a "Dark Knight" billboard around 1:37.
The “Hollywood” sign is dirty and dated in those distant hills. Now, masses of bleached tipped bitches and high school prom queens swarm LA with dreams of big screen stardom and hopes of securing a spot on one of Hollywood’s prestigious towering billboards. However, Mid-City, Los Angeles, native Augor prefers to bypass casting couches and demonstrate upward mobility on his own two—climbing and painting his way to some of the most coveted real estate in the country. Augor, who is “old enough to go to jail and be roomed with rapists and drug addicts, but not old enough to drink,” started writing in the late ’90s. Since, he has developed a style which he describes as, “[surrealist] H.R. Giger-meets-Candy Land. I try to make my letters very anthropomorphic, giving them life like qualities that turn the piece not just into a fresh name but a giant creature looking down on his prey perched on a five-story ledge.” In 2003, Augor began painting on movie billboards, molding it into the pre-existing artwork. “The smooth canvas surface, trying to adapt my art into the advertisement and having both compliment each other has been a challenge I have become addicted to completing over and over,” he says about his neck straining pieces. And in the land of LAPD helicopters and film industry money, jumping down two stories and cracking your head open comes with the territory. He’s not above the law, but Augor flies high like a real black superman.
